Perfumes Perfect For Summer*

by Nikki LLL Blog, June 18, 2021

I LOVE perfume. I'm not one of those pure experts who can smell a fragrance and pick out all the notes & tones & that - my feedback normally goes along the lines of "that smells well fit" ... but it's still something I'm passionate about.

You can tell I genuinely feel strongly about perfume, as I don't resent paying the price on the bottle, and actively avoid knock-offs (yeah I know, not like me at all that is it!) So there's that. Pure, unadulterated passion that; in my eyes.

Chloe Signature Perfume Lovelaughslipstick Blog

I  love picking out a new scent. I love whacking the laptop out when I'm feeling a bit spendy and heading to buy perfume online. I love getting all dolled up and spraying on an out-out perfume scent; it really adds the final touches to your outfit, and a splash of personality and mood to your persona.

And of course - the memories you associate with certain scents and perfumes as soon as you smell them is just the most magical sensation. Mugler Alien? Nights out in 2010. Marc Jacobs Daisy Love? Summer 2018. Jean Paul Gaultier Classique? Christmases past and first getting into perfume brands in 2005/6. Chloe Signature? Christmassy nights out and new jobs, meeting new people. AW2012.

I'm going to stop there before I give away too many spoilers of what's to come - but with summer 2021 on the horizon and The Rona having cancelled last summer / all social plans ever, I can't wait to try out some new scents and make some new memories to them. And of course, take some of my old scents out for a spin, to create new memories to them. So I've compiled a list of some of my personal favourite perfumes for summer, in case you need any inspo in this department too!

YSL Black Opium

I just love how luxurious this perfume is. It's more of a heavier, evening / special occasion kinda fragrance, but it's a truly lovely one with a v special place in my heart. It's sweet yet musky - a grown-up, sensual scent. Two things I am not, but I like to pretend I am by masking my chaotic life choices behind this gorgeous fragrance.

Hugo Boss, The Scent For Her

This is probs my all time favourite scent. Well, it has been for the past few years. It's another sweet one but again, which packs a powerful punch and I just love it. I'm a huge fan of the men's Hugo Boss fragrances (I have a bottle of one of the men's aftershaves, it's just too fit to cope with) and so having the womens' version was just a natural next step for me. I tend to wear this for events and of an evening, as it's a strong, boss bish vibe.

Marc Jacobs Daisy Love

Wear this most days tbh. Nipping the shop? Daisy Love. Nipping down the Costa to visit that barista? Daisy, Love. I always get compliments on it when I wear this - it's the perfect blend of floral and sweet, but light enough for it to be a day-time scent to wear to the park or to go for a walk for ice cream in. But can also be worn for more evening occasions, like meals or cute first dates.

Vera Wang Princess, Hippy Princess etc

I love our gal Ms Wang's fragrances. Affordable, sweet smelling and an excuse for me to say / type the word 'wang' without being judged for how immature I am for my ripe old age. I think of the Princess variants, 'Hippy Princess' has to be my fave. It's the ultimate sweet smell for summer, in the cutest crown adorned bottle.

Jimmy Choo Perfume Lovelaughslipstick Blog

Jimmy Choo Eau de Parfum

I didn't expect to like this perfume as much as I do. I don't really know how to describe it - except that it reminds me of a perfume we used to sell in the days I worked in Lipsy, so maybe that's why it resonates with me, as it reminds me of memories of those times? A simpler time? Dunno but it's a nice one to wear during the day and for evening events. I'm a fan and need to repurchase actually.

Nina Ricci 'Nina'

I bought this perfume on a whim a few years back cos I liked the bottle - and it didn't let me down! This is a sweet, fruity perfume (as the apple bottle suggests!) that ticks all my boxes for summer. It's a lovely date night perfume... it's somewhat intoxicating and moreish, so a great one to spritz on if you're trying to throw the moves on someone.

Britney Spears Fantasy

I feel like this one is a perfume EVERYONE has either had or smelt at least once in their lifetimes. And you either love it or hate it - it was probs THE most sprayed perfume of 2006. If you were even born then huns, I'm aware I'm a fully fledged fossil at this point. It's a pretty sweet perfume, like sweets and a hint of that classic Spears magic. But this - and some of Zara's own brand perfumes, remind me of holidays abroad and times past, and I just dig that, yeno? A gorgeous day-time perfume.

Have you tried any of these fragrances before? What's your top summer scent?
