Being the massive, oily beast that I am; I rely pretty heavily on setting sprays to stop my makeup sliding off my giant, rancid face during the day [I'd say during the night, but who am I kidding - I don't have a life that permits me to be out past 9pm these days.] I've tried and tested a fair few to date like - drugstore, mid-range and high end, but not all of them worked for me. This post is an ode to those that do. My setting spray baes.
Let's kick off with this guy. The MVP of setting sprays. The cult one, the icon. I am, of course, wittering on / chatting bare sh*te here about the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray [which I have in the smaller bottle because I'm poor AF.] I'm onto my second or third bottle of this stuff now because it's insanely good. Probably the best setting spray I've tried in my adult life. Big claims; but despite me being the biggest drama llama going, factual. Even with my oily AF complexion, my makeup does not shift with this stuff.
Real talk time: despite its almost magical setting power, the one downfall of this spray is that it doesn't smell great. It's not like spraying pure liquid sh*t on your face or anything, it just smells a bit like... well, sort of like weird beer. This was a criticism I remember someone commented on my Instagram post of the spray when I'd first got it & hadn't tried it yet, and I was like 'oh okay hun xox' but no. She was right. It does have a weird whiff about it, but it's that good that I can overlook this factor & still crown it my winner.
On the opposite side of the smell stakes, we have this little beauty. The TooFaced Hangover 3-in-1 Replenishing Primer & Setting Spray; which I spontaneously [and recklessly] picked up in a cute collaborative set these guys did with Beauty Blender. She smells like coconuts, holiday & summer breezes - and has become a firm favourite in my setting spray rotation [although I've just ran out *sob* *cough*PR REQUEST*cough*
I don't know why, but I didn't have hugely high hopes for this spray. Could any product be that damn 'Grammable, smell like precious angels and actually do the job? Well yes hun; in short - it totally does. It's the most expensive out of all the sprays in this shortlist / love letter of a post; but she's worth it. Again, the hold this spray gives is fab - once it's on, ya face ain't shifting. 10/10 would recommend and / or bang.
Last up, I can't not mention these lil sorts from Gerard Cosmetics [I normally order this brand via Beauty Bay.] Coming in a variety of scents & the cheapest setting solution in this post at £16; I've been loyal to these guys since like, maybe 2015? Out of the selection of scents I've tried, these two are my favs; as they seem to work better on my oily fod than some of the others. The Peach one for example didn't really do anything for me. These are the Green Tea [favouritest] and Rose variants of Gerard Cosmetics Slay All Day Setting Spray and they're defo worth a try if you haven't already.
Which setting spray[s] are your ride or dies? Have you tried any of these ones before?
