Life's better with a tan. Like, soooo much more sublime. I don't know why, but my makeup applies so much better with a decent base of tan underneath. Like, it makes even me look almost semi-human. And of course, with a bit of bronze in my life - even when I wake up late for work [everyday of my frigging life at the moment] - I look less like the walking dead and more like a functioning adult.
But of course, living in the UK at this time of year = zero prospect of getting a natural sunkissed glow. In fact, I'd say that there's more chance of pigs flying, maintaining full time jobs and getting us back in the EU than there is of getting a tan here right now. So I, like many, have to turn to the bottle. And no, I don't mean drink - I'm talking faking a glow. Though also, probably a few glasses of vino too; let's not lie.
When it comes to fake tan, I've experimented with them all - spray, mousse, oil, lotion, in shower etc etc - I have accepted the fact that until I win the lottery [and justify my scratchcard addiction] I can't afford to relocate to the Maldives and live my tanned dream. So I'm very much faking it till I make it.
I've tried and tested many brands, formulas and price ranges of tan; embracing the good, bad and the ugly. The biscuit fragranced, the streaky and the patchy stuff that highlights aaaaalll your skin ailments and makes you look diseased. Today's post features some products from Bondi Sands [a brand I've been super keen to try for such a long time] which you'll be thankful to know bypass all these problems and gives consistently brilliant results.
Bondi Sands is Australia's number one tanning brand, and a name I've seen countless celebrities use & feature on their social media accounts. Which obv piqued my attention, as I'm blates a Kardashian in training, amiright? [I've made £3.48 in Google Adsense revenue, k - you could stay I'm a star now.]
Inspired by Australia’s most well known beach, and a desire to make the ultimate tan accessible to everyone, Bondi Sand's salon quality formulas work to give you an even, naturally golden tan that hydrates and nourishes your skin - meaning you stay bronzed for longer. You can get your mitts on some via their website - and it's also stocked in Boots [who knew?! Get them Advantage Card Points in!] AND ON OFFER AT THE MOMENT #Can'tCope
Bondi Sands very kindly sent me a bottle of their Self Tanning Mist* in Light / Medium [250mL, rrp £14.99] and their Self Tanning Foam* in the Dark shade [200mL, rrp £14.99] to try. And I have to say guys - I'm super impressed with them. At the beginning of 2016 I'd only ever used St Moriz tan and I smelled heavily like biscuits. But these past few months I've had the pleasure of trying out some super cool products, which have changed my perception of what fake tanning should be like forever.
In some cases, bargains are key / the only way to live when you're as poor as me [for example, St Moriz you can pick up for like, £3 in B&M.] But in other areas, if you pay that little extra, you really feel the benefit. And 2016 & Bondi Sands has taught me that this is 100% the case with fake tan.
Both these products are insanely brilliant. I am obsessed with the Dark Self Tanning Foam - the more tanned I am, the happier I am. I love the fact that it applies with a stain, so you can see exactly where you're applying it and you get an instant bronzing effect. I also love the fact that a little goes a long way. It doesn't pure cling to dry skin or betray me with mad streaks either - plus that the effects of the tan last for ages. I heart the fact that it doesn't smell horrendous - it actually smells really, really nice. Banishing the stigma surrounding fake tan vs biscuits forever.
The Self Tanning Mist is equally as impressive; I use this to top up my tan inbetween main applications. Although historically, I've had endless disasters with spritz on tans [think Ross from Friends and you're not too far off] this is really quite easy to apply. The nozzle sprays out a thick, mist of tan, which is easy to control and target. This makes it so much easier to apply - and quicker too, as the cloud of mist covers a larger surface area. It too smells so lovely - nothing like fake tan at all; more like cake, sweets, sugar, Malibu, coconuts and the lipgloss I was wearing for my first kiss. Ah, nostalgia.
Both variants of the Bondi Sands fake tan products I've tried for this blog post develop into a natural looking tan - like, a naturally deep bronzed shade, rather than pure orange a la Donald Trump *shudders.* Even the dark mousse takes to my skin and deepens it to the kind of shade I'd naturally go in the sun, rather than some cheap shade of tangerine [which I've had with other brands of fake tan *cough* L'OREAL*cough*]

If you're looking for a safe way to tan ie NOT the dreaded beds or frazzling yourself using carrot oil on the beach, I cannot recommend Bondi Sands enough. After trying it, I am in no doubt whatsoever as to why this is Australia's number one tanning brand; and I love how they've incorporated beachy vibes into their branding and company ethos. Check out their Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts for total photography goals and tanning inspo - as well as their website; where you can place an order and fake yourself bronze in time for the Office Christmas Party.
