As defective & rancid as my body is, the one thing it doesn't seem to subject me to is cold sores. Silver linings and all that. However, I know a lot of people suffer badly with them - especially during the winter and times of stress.
For this reason I was super keen to educate myself on HERPOTherm®* when I first learnt about it - I love finding out more about the latest devices to hit the market, especially when they're ones that I can recommend to people. One of my gal pals is getting married this year for example & is worried the stress leading up to the event will trigger her cold sores - so I can't wait to show her this.
What is a HERPOTherm®?
Well huns, to put it simply; HERPOtherm® is a chemical-free medical device that can prevent the development of cold sore blisters, if applied early enough. If applied later [once the blister has formed] the severity of symptoms may be lessened using this device, or they may fade sooner [by up
to 50%.]

How Does It Work?
HERPOtherm® works by concentrating heat on the affected area; killing the virus beneath the skin before it emerges into a blister. The application of concentrated heat [local hyperthermia] may relieve symptoms such as itching, burning, tingling or tightness felt at the site. This heat [of around 51°C] has been shown in studies to influence the secretion of histamine and support the degradation of enzymes [science-y]... thereby reducing the inflammatory reaction.
Basically - if we strip away all the science talk - the pen heats to the right temperature and when used on the spot where you start to feel a tingle, it uses this heat to banish the nasties that cause cold sores. If you catch it in time, the use of the HERPOtherm® pen can actually help stop the cold sore developing at all. And this preventative outlook is exactly what sufferers need when they feel one coming on.
How do you use HERPOtherm®?
The HERPOtherm® device is dead simple to use. First, place the device onto the affected area and gently press it on to the skin. Press the button & the ceramic contact surface on the top of the device heats up to approx. 51°C. This temperature is maintained for three seconds, when HERPOtherm® then switches off automatically; with a little beep to let you know it's done.
Note: To achieve maximum heat transfer to the skin, please ensure good contact with the skin, as even a small air gap can affect heat conduction.
Please note: leave a treatment interval of at least 2 minutes between each application. Do not exceed a maximum number of 5 applications per hour on the same skin area.
I've spoken about a few of the benefits of the HERPOtherm® device already in this post... but it's time to address the elephant in the room. COST. Why spend £30 on a HERPOtherm® when you can buy a cream for £5!?
WELL.
1. Creams have a use by date, whereas HERPOtherm® can be used hundreds of times into the future. Therefore HERPOtherm® is far more cost effective long-term - and less wasteful
2. Different creams work for different people, sometimes not at all. HERPOtherm® has solid claims of effectiveness
3. Creams can be greasy & noticeable on the skin. HERPOtherm® can sometimes leave a slight red mark for a short amount of time, but otherwise leaves no trace
4. In addition to the above point, HERPOtherm® is discreet and can be kept in a bag without worry it may leak - you would just think it's a lipstick on first glance
5. HERPOtherm® is dermatologically tested & strongly supported by studies and research.
