I'm going to put my hand up and admit something a bit grim here. I love watching spot popping videos. Like, I'd marry Dr Pimple Popper in a heartbeat, just to be in with a chance of having a go at that shiz myself.

Glad I've got that off my chest - surely I'm not the only one who finds them grim, yet fascinating and can't look away?!

Anyway, due to the amount of time I spend watching spot related media, Shills' Deep Cleansing Blackhead Masks were something I was well aware of and fascinated by - they're all over Twitter Insta at the moment. And for good reason.

The science behind it all is dead interesting, the idea is nothing short of genius and the videos of all the blackheads that these masks seemingly pull out have dominated my life recently. So when they reached out to me and asked if I'd like to try their products, I was gamer than a badger... playing board games.

Shills very kindly gifted me this fab Purifying Blackhead Removing Travel Kit Set* (rrp £6.99 containing their Deep Sebum SoftenerDeep Cleansing Black Mask & the Clarifying Toner - all of which can be bought separately too.) I was super excited to try this genuine Shills giftset, especially the black peel-off mask - which originated in Taiwan but is finally now accessible to the UK.

Shills' Deep Cleansing Peel-Off Mask and Pore Minimising Toner have earned somewhat of a superstar status as the ultimate duo in blackhead-busting. In case you're unfamiliar with this magical stuff, Shills' Peel-Off Mask is created with a rich, active formula that works to unblock clogged pores by literally lifting blackheads, dead skin, dirt and spot-causing bacteria away. Its key active ingredient is Bamboo Charcoal, which acts like a magnet to draw out the most deeply-rooted impurities. Their Sebum Softener softens the skin and clogged pores before use, so that they're easier to remove and the popular Clarifying Toner refines and refreshes your skin post-treatment; to shrink pores and firm up the skin.

Forget all the big beauty bloggers, the YouTubers and the celebs who've been raving over this stuff - how did I - a very average member of society with a potty mouth, dedication to telling the truth and pretty bad skin - find it? Well, keep reading to find out!

Although you can use the Peel Off Mask on its own; for optimum results, Shills suggest you use the Softener and Toner with it too.

So I set off using the Deep Sebum Softener, which I applied to my clean, dry face and washed off with warm water after 5-10 minutes. This stuff is supposed to soften your skin and get those pores nice and open; ready for the next step[s] of the treatment. It was a pretty pleasant experience using it, actually - the Softener is a serum like, clear fluid with a greyish tint; which heats up as you leave it on your skin. When I touched my face, I could really feel the blocked pores and blemishes under my skin; as though they were coming up to the surface for battle.

Next up was the exciting stage - getting the Purifying Peel-Off Mask on. I'd read online that when applying this stuff, you should slap it on thick and avoid your eyebrows, and I very much stuck to these rules. The mask comes out exactly how you'd imagine - a thick, black, tacky-feeling liquid which sits on your skin in jetblack patches and dries slowly. I applied it to my t-zone [the sick, oily joke part of my face] and to the sides of my cheeks, where I've been breaking out with stress spots recently.

You leave this mask on for 20-30 minutes, which again, was a pleasant enough experience. It certainly didn't hurt - the only weird thing about it was as it dries, it stops your face from being able to move properly and wrinkles up / cracks when you move your face. I had a ball.

As the mask began to dry, I could see the imprint of my pores through it; with raised dots where grim bacteria and pore-juice were being brought to the surface. Yum. After 30 minutes, my mask was dry and I could tell it was ready to peel off. Shills recommend you peel from bottom upwards for maximum effect, so that's what I did!

My skin instantly felt amazing, with every piece of mask I peeled off.

Granted, as you pull the mask off it's a tad painful [as it rips off dead skin, blackheads and small facial hairs as you go] but it's like ripping off a top layer of blocked, horrible skin and letting your face breathe, which is insanely satisfying. I've never felt my skin feel as soft as it did after peeling the mask off. It felt about 5 years younger, moisturised and oh so smooth. My complexion was also considerably less dull, spots appeared less prominent and I noticed a reduction in the amount of blocked pores on my nose and chin. And where with some of the blackhead type creations on my face the mask hadn't pulled them right out, it brought them up to the surface, ready to be removed next time.

I made several squeals of excitement throughout the super-satisfying peel off process and pretty much haven't stopped stroking my face since. My skin looks noticeably clearer and more radiant; even a few days down the line.

Lastly, I dabbed some of the Toner onto my fresh and youthful looking face, to refine and minimise any open pores that the previous two treatments had brought to a head. Though this was a teensy bit stingy, it made my skin feel firm and was very cooling / refreshing against my skin.

I can't lie guys - I am super, super impressed with this stuff. My skin has never felt so good - it feels tingly fresh and alive; rather than grey, dull and oily. I will definitely, definitely purchase more of this stuff from Shills as soon as I can afford to live again - it's a total gamechanger and not just a novelty idea we see celebs repping on the 'Gram

I definitely think the Softening Serum and the Clarifying Toner helped make my first Shills experience even better for me [you can buy them separately here and here] but even if you just go straight in and buy the Peeling Mask, I guarantee you'll be a happy customer.

I'm so glad that this product didn't stay exclusively in Taiwan - thanks so much for bringing it to the UK, ShillsYou can check out & order the full Shills range here; plus all items featured in this post are linked for ya.

Have you tried a Shills mask before? How do you deep cleanse your skin? Does anyone else love watching spot popping videos as much as I do?!
