I'm a terrible blogger / excuse for a bird. Before I began working with OSHUNwhite, I was clueless what oil pulling even was. I genuinely thought it was something you did to your hair. Thankfully, I have now realised the error of my ways and I can safely say that since those dark, uneducated days; my knowledge of oil pulling and its benefits has improved tenfold. And I haven't rubbed any in my hair yet. Honest.

When the lovely team at OSHUNwhite dropped me a line to see if I'd like to try out their products, it was time for me to learn more. And after a quick stalk of their website, I realised that oil pulling was very much for me. I don't make much effort at all with my hair, but it turns out that oil pulling is actually for your teeth - who knew? [here's the shameful bit when every single one of you knew this and it was just me imagining people literally pulling oil through their hair for all this time...] And after such an amazing experience with OSHUNwhite's products, I can safely say that it's fricking awesome, too.

OSHUNwhite very kindly sent me a striking copper tongue cleaner [rose gold is my bae] and a two week supply of OSHUNwhite oil pulling sachets; for naturally whiter teeth. The packaging and design of the products is just something else - so minimal and clean. Every Instagrammer's dream.

I opted for the 'Wild Cherry' flavour for my sachets as I have a bit of a sweet tooth [and the lovely Imogen from the OSHUN team also recommended it!] but the sachets come in Peppermint, Crushed Lime and Spearmint too, if you prefer. A box of 14 sachets retails at £24.00 online; with free shipping, no matter where you are in the world.

Just look at that packaging. #Goals. Some fun facts from OSHUNwhite for you here as well:

Copper Tongue Cleaner
"Our tongue takes up half our mouth, yet is often neglected when it comes to oral care. In fact, over 80% of bad breath is believed to be caused by bacteria which reside on the tongue.

Tongue scraping using gold, silver or copper is an ancient Ayurvedic tradition. Recent scientific studies confirmed copper to be the most effective material  due to its natural antibacterial properties. Hospitals are now incorporating copper furnishings to reduce bacteria on surfaces.

Copper tongue cleaners offer great oral benefits and resist bacteria whilst not in use, and are therefore very long lasting. Tongue scraping, alongside brushing, flossing and oil pulling, completes your oral routine."

What did I have to do?

It's dead simple. You use one sachet a day - and as you can see from my photos, the gorgeous storage box arranges your sachets for you, so you can see where in the week you're up to [I'll hold my hands up and admit I regularly have no idea what day it even is.] Squeeze the oil into your mouth and swish it round your mouth gently, like you would a mouthwash. You should aim to do this for 5-15 minutes each time [which seems pretty tough at first, but once you get used to it, you can do something else whilst swishing. I did the hoovering whilst swishing, once #man, ifeellikeawoman.] Once you're done, spit it out into a bin / container and job's a good'un.

What did I have to avoid?

SWALLOWING IT. Massive no-no. Also spitting it down the sink, as the oil can solidify again and cause major plumbing probz. It's best to spit it into like a plazzy tub or a bin bag. Other than that, there was nothing else to avoid.

What's it like?

When you first do it, it feels a bit mad. Like really oily and waxy in your mouth. But then, after even a few seconds of swishing, it all melts even further and it just becomes a tasty liquid that you swish round yer gob for a bit. Top tip is to rub the sachet in your hands for a few second before squeezing it into your mouth, to warm it all up and melt the oil so it feels nicer to swish.

Did it work?

The whole experience has definitely left me feeling sooo more confident in my smile and I've had a handful of people comment on how good my smile looks, since completing my two week supply. My teeth definitely look whiter [even if just to me!] and my mouth feels cleaner and healthier from using both the oils and the tongue scraper. I'm usually a little self conscious to pure grin and bear it all, but I feel proud of the natural whiteness of my teeth and how they look brighter in photos [even more so when I've been on holiday to the fake tan aisle in Tesco!] so I've been smiling / gurning / lolling with pride in the company of others.

In my opinion, oil pulling is a cost effective, safe and convenient alternative to cosmetic teeth whitening treatments. It's natural looking too; none of this bleached, chemical ridden, glow-in-the-dark American madness. I would definitely recommend both this product and OSHUNwhite - and would buy more in a heartbeat.

Here's some photos of me flashing my #OSHUNsmile. Although I've edited these images in the same way I edit all my photos [continuity, innit - just love a bit of a faded effect me] I haven't altered the colour of my teeth or used any whitening filters at all. Or any contrast. Keep an eye on my Instagram for more #OSHUNsmile pics.

There you have it - my first experience with oil pulling. It definitely won't be my last!

Have you tried oil pulling before? How did you find it? Have you tried anything from OSHUNwhite's range yet?

*this post contains items that OSHUNwhite gifted me me for review. In the interest of full disclosure, I wanted to make you guys aware of that. As ever, all opinions are my own - I wouldn't lie to you guys, as it's not big and it's not clever!
