Although [in some cases] office dress codes are becoming more relaxed, it’s still nice to feel a bit done-up and dress appropriately when heading to work. It gives you a chance to get out of that giant hoody and sweatpants you pretty much live in outside of the 9-5; amiright?

It can be difficult to strike the right balance of formal to comfy when it comes to denim - what's the best way to pull this off appropriately? Trilogy Stores, premium denim retailers of straight legged jeans for women, are here today to provide us with some  valuable insight when it comes to styling denim for work. So grab a brew & prepare to revamp ya workplace wardrobe!

How To: Style Denim For Work

Styling jeans

πŸ’— If you’re new to wearing denim for work - or if, perhaps, your office dress code isn’t super relaxed, why not play it safe with black denim? Teamed with a patterned shirt tucked into the waistband, black high-waisted jeans can create a more fitted look than black work pants.

The high-waisted fit of the jeans elongates your legs — perf when matched with your favourite pair of heels. Grab yaself a good quality pair of black jeans with a playful hem to add a stylish edge to your outfit; that’s still smart.

πŸ’— Culottes are very in this season, and there’s no reason why you can’t bring this trend to ya desk. Black or indigo jean culottes - paired with a smart blouse, oversized jacket & peep-toe flats - is just one summery yet smart outfit inspo idea; remaining on the right side of work-appropriate. Tuck your blouse in to add a further dimension of smartness & pop on heels when heading out for after-work bevvys.

πŸ’— Similarly, cropped leg jeans are a great shout for the warmer months - they look stylish AF paired with loafers and a cami-blouse combination. If you feel like adding a pop of colour to your look, [but don’t want to go too loud, or Jane in Accounts will have something to say!] opt for a pastel palette. Lilac or sky-blue denim can complement a smart shirt well — ideal for keeping it bright and cool when the sun is shining too. And I LOVE a good pastel.

πŸ’— Classic blue skinny jeans don’t have to look casual either. With a sleeveless white shirt tucked in and a checked blazer, you can easily create a fashionable ensemble that’s anything but boring. Slip on your point-toe pumps & get on the 86A bus to work, hun.

πŸ’— Don’t forget about white jeans either — often thought of as ‘holiday jeans’, these stylish bad boys can still be styled so that they’re suitable for work. Worn with a dark or pastel shirt, white denim can be work-appropriate — choose a pair with a slim-leg to create a smart, summer look.

Styling a skirt

πŸ’— A pencil skirts & shirt combo is on of those classic styles worn by women in the office. It’s a fab way to feel feminine without revealing too much - and can look uber stylish as part of a power suit. Why not trade in your black midi garment for a denim skirt?

πŸ’— Dark-wash denim skirts look smart & are bang on-trend this season. Avoid distressed denim and light-washes as these can appear more beachwear than workwear - and probs steer clear of any pieces that sit too far above the knee.

A pencil-style skirt in navy or black denim - styled with a ruffle shirt - is a MOOD. Pair this dream duo with a fitted jacket to replicate the power-suit; or with a floaty blazer for a less formal look. To add extra pops of detail, choose a skirt with subtle press studs down the centre; leaving the bottom stud undone to create a leg split. Alternatively, an A-line denim skirt can be a smart look, paired with a long-sleeved crew-neck and heeled ankle boots.

πŸ’— Don’t be afraid to experiment with different colours. Similarly to when wearing denim jeans, pastel coloured fitted skirts are another fun go-to for the warmer months — tucked in a chiffon blouse and styled with heeled sandals or pointed ankle boots. Or, if you’re feeling more daring, why not opt for a bold red or green denim skirt and wear with a classic black V-neck to tone it down.?Co-ordinate your outfit with a complementing coloured cross-over or tote bag and BOOM - office fashion? COMPLETED IT HUN.
