A few years ago, I got really stressed out and developed a pure beast of a throat infection; which left me in a pretty bad way. I've always had somewhat dry skin [bar my excessively oily t-zone situation from hell] but this throat infection was a proper arse and took the existing problem one step further. I developed Guttate Psoriasis; which is a flare up of psoriasis, triggered by bacteria caused by certain types of throat infection.

It was a living hell. My whole body [but mostly my chest and stomach] broke out into these insanely itchy patches, which wouldn't go away. The itching was so intense that I couldn't sleep; I'd wake up in the night crying because it was just so horrendous and I couldn't get comfortable. I got some prescription cream from the doctors to clear the scales up - and I plastered myself in Calamine lotion, cooling / itch relief creams and E45 emollients, but nothing really seemed to help when I needed it most.

Eventually, with the help of the prescribed Exorex treatment cream, the psoriasis went away completely and hasn't shown it's stupid itchy face [bar one or two minor relapses] since. However, I have noticed that my skin [in general] is a lot drier since the 'Psoriasis Episode of 2012' and I've recently been diagnosed with having eczema down my right ear!? So trying to keep my skin moisturised and cared for is an important mission in my life right now, in order to avoid any future outbreaks & stop these freak eczema flare-ups.

One thing I found when my skin was at its worst, was that I really struggled finding products I could buy over the counter to help myself - or even information on products that others in the same situation would recommend. Even Kimmy K has psoriasis, like; but I'd heard so little about this common skin condition before I was diagnosed with it, that it terrified me and I was left with loads of questions. And Googling anything medical only makes you hysterical, assuming you're about to die.

I was totally clueless - I had my prescription cream from the doctor, but the shelves in Boots were a mystery to me. The woman at Boots Pharmacy helped me out as best she could, but the range she had to pick from was just two mini shelves; with very few options or information to choose from. Everyone just said 'Just get loads of E45, that'll help you out' but I literally tried the full range and it didn't seem to work for me. Where were the alternative brands, the people in similar situations to me with tried & tested product recommendations?

When HelloSkin contacted me recently, asking me if I'd like to work with them; I jumped at the chance. Their website is gorgeous and crammed full of help, community and information about a whole host of dry skin conditions. Something I really, really wish I'd have known about when I was going through my own personal psoriasis hell. HelloSkin have informative reviews on each product, their range can be filtered by condition, their experts are no more than a click away and they'll help you find the right products for your psoriasis.

Even though eczema and psoriasis are common skin conditions, I don't think there's enough awareness about them and the implications on their sufferers in the public eye atm. People used to ask me if my psoriasis was contagious, looked at me like I was diseased or assumed all kinds about my levels of personal hygiene. Granted, I've dodged a few hair brushes in my time, but I'm not unclean.

I feel exceptionally lucky to have overcome my psoriasis battle, as it really did impact on my self confidence, sleeping patterns and general health in so many ways. So I'm really passionate about working with HelloSkin and letting fellow sufferers know that there is help out there - plus a community of fellow dry skin divas who will support you & offer recommendations; when you need them the most.

I chose a few products from their website to test out and review for you guys. Obviously, dependant on your condition and your symptoms, some products might work for some of us and not others. But all you have to do is click here to get access to an unreal catalogue of products, super helpful specialists & speedy delivery.

- I really like this product - it's a lovely light consistency; a mixture between cream and oil.

- I found it instantly cooling and soothing against my skin.

- It smells like a mixture of Cherry Bakewells, Battenburg and Johnson's Holiday Skin blended into one, which is nice.

- It left a glossy, shimmery sheen to my skin afterwards; which I defo don't normally have.

- My skin felt instantly hydrated & coated with moisture, but not at all greasy after use

- I love the design of its packaging & branding - more of a 'pretty' product for psoriasis [most of them look extremely medicinal.]

- All good quality emollients seem to be pretty pricey, but you get a lot more quantity-wise in this Bath Additive for the same price than the ones I've seen / bought off the shelves in Boots.

- As soon as you get into a warm bath tub with this stuff added, you instantly feel the benefits - it's a little oily [as all emollients are] but it's super moisturising and instantly coats your skin - evenly and all over.

- Your skin is instantly shiny and intensely moisturised; rather than dry or scaly.

- When I was suffering with psoriasis, bath emollients really helped me. This one is much better than any of the ones I tried at the time - a little really does go a long way and you don't need to use much to feel the effects.

- It's also a fab lazy girl hack [for people like me.] Pop some of this stuff in your next bath; it's not bubbly or fragranced but when you get out, it's like you've completed a full moisturising sesh - multi tasking at its finest.

- On that note, do make sure you're careful when you get outta the tub; as emollients make everything very slippery.

- This bottle and lotion looks and smells quite medicinal, but it has a slight hint of baby powder fragrance to it; which is pleasant.

- When you pump the bottle, the cream comes out quite thick and you might be fooled into thinking it's going to be quite a greasy formula - but you're wrong! When it hits your skin, it sorta melts & thins out. It applies really nicely.

- Skin feels hydrated and soft as soon as you apply it; a feeling which lasts.

- Reminds me of some of the products I was prescribed to help me wit my psoriasis; but at a cheaper price and in a much larger bottle.

- This bottle is a BEAST and true to it's massive, industrial appearance, was the product I felt most benefit from.

- Epaderm promises to improve your skin hydration in two weeks - and I can confirm that for me, this has 100% been the case.

- The lotion applies with a slightly thicker consistency than the other products reviewed in this post and is a tad greasy feeling - but I believe this is because of how intensely it works to moisturise your skin. This is also a plus point for if you have quite bad psoriasis or eczema, as it coats your skin and cools it right down.

- It smells a little like plaster, clay, calamine and poster paints mixed together. The slight infusion of calamine instantly set my mind at ease that this product would be awesome - calamine lotion is known for its soothing, anti itch properties; and is something I used to smother myself in during a flare up. The slightly clay-y smell isn't the nicest ever, but as anyone who's been prescribed psoriasis cream will tell you, none of the products that work smell ideal! The Exorex cream which cleared mine up contained petrol and tar and STUNK - so this is considerably nicer!

- Your skin instantly feels hydrated, elasticised and springy. Definitely the most effective product I've tried to date.
