For me, 2017 was the very definition of cockwomble - you can find out why exactly in this post here; if you fancy a good old fashioned rofl at my expense.

There was one good thing to come out of this otherwise complete sh*t show of a year however - and that was how much my makeup skillz have advanced [probs due to how much time I've had to just sit at home / lie in hospital beds & practice] & how during these past 12 months especially; I've discovered some proper game changing makeup & beauty products which have totes contributed towards said advancements in masking the monstrosity that is my face. And I'm not gonna keep such crucial information like that to myself! Here's a quick round-up of some of my stand-out makeup picks of 2017.

Discovering Highlighter
Obv, I haven't lived under a rock for the past few years [well, perhaps that isn't that obvious, given my pale AF skin & the fact I haven't left the house in months... but honest, I haven't; like] and I've used highlighter for a while. But I'd never been that much of a fan tbh and I'd always keep it to a minimum; mostly just using it to brighten my brow bone & in my tearducts [to give the illusion that a) I get enough sleep & my eyes aren't sunken in craters and b) that I cry glitter.]

But since this NYX Highlighting Palette came into my life [thanks Debenhams, you absolute sorts] I've abruptly woken up to the highlighter hype & I've been CAKING it on. The shades in this palette are each so, so shimmery and pigmented - so much so, that I actually understand what the cool kids of today say now, when they tweet words like blindin' and lit. Whilst I'm bigging up NYX, I'd also like to express my sincere AF love for their Pore Filling Primer, too - NEVER has my face felt as velvety soft [or my huge ass pores looked as noticeably dimished] in my life / when using any other priming product than with this. A must try

Becoming a NARSISSIST
As a tramp, I've had very little exposure to NARS products in my lifetime... cos yeno, poor. However, I was lucky enough to win frigging LOADS of their goodies from World Duty Free Beauty in 2017 & they have changed the game. A standout product for me is NARS' Orgasm Blusher - it's a thing of absolute beauty & one of the prettiest, softest and natural looking blushers I've ever used. 100% converted.

Benefit's They're Real Mascara
2017 saw me rediscover my love for this mascara - after my last bottle of They're Real rolled off in a nightclub toilet, into a cubicle where some girl was either having asleep, having a breakdown or having a tactical poo. Never to be seen again. I love the wand on this mazzy [nah, it's not gonna work is it - a bit like 'fetch', mazzy as a pet name for mascara isn't ever gonna happen] ... it lifts and defines even my sh*tty arse eyelashes & the little bit on the end is perfect for grabbing my lower lashes.

Becoming a Tarte
One product you couldn't avoid last year was Tarte's Shape Tape Concealer ... and after seeing that QVC offered it on Easy Pay Installments of like, £7 a month, I made the investment. Poor people's probs.

Anyway, the rest is history. It's the best concealer I've ever tried, hands down. It's blendable, creamy and extremely full coverage - it even manages to disguise my undereye circles; which is no easy feat. Yes, at £28 it ain't cheap. And yes, I am TOTES gonna be checking out the £4 Makeup Revolution Dupe in 2018. But I've never used a more effective concealer in my life ... and I'm proper old, so that's saying something.

Colourpop. 'Nuff Said
I think if there's one word to sum up makeup in 2017, it'd be COLOURPOP. Without any further explanation necessary. My obsession is now very, very much real and - like Pokémon - I now need to catch them ALL. Every palette, lipstick and highlighter.

One of the first eyeshadow palettes of theirs to both capture my heart & fill the hearts of NatWest with instantaneous fears for my bank account [RIP] was this Yes Please! Palette - the shades in this palette are INSANE! They're a pigmented dream and [raaaaaagingly huge customs fees aside] everyone should have one of them. Or 12.

Charlotte Bloody Tilbury
Until 2017, Tilbs' products were like; a thing of myth / urban legend to me. Did they truly exist, or were they just these things of intense beauty that lived solely within Friday Faye's flatlays? With their very high end price tags, they were not something easily accessible to me... but the ABSOLUTE baes that are Friday Faye and Francisca May bought me a CT lipstick of my very own [Miranda May] and that was it. TRUE LOVE.

Miranda May is the most beautiful colour - matte, vibrant and corally. She's a beauty inside and out - her packaging and design is simply flawless. Yes, at £24 she's pricey AF.. but now I've experienced such high end luxury I now know that everything else CT ever now needs to be mine. And that's how the bankruptcy begins, lol. Pillow Talk is defo next up on my list. Even if I have to save for the next 3000 years. I actually picked up the Hot Lips Mini Trio Set in the Sales [obv - these are a bit of a rip off at full price, in my opinion... grab ya tea] over Christmas and have taken a right fancy to Secret Salma too.
